Meta-Flux has raised €1.8 million (around $2 million) in a pre-seed round to build the intelligence layer to simulate disease, so that every prediction we make about a target, a pathway, or a patient population traces back to a real biological mechanism rather than a statistical association.
Rather than a single lead venture fund, the round is backed by people who have built and run drug programmes and large-scale technology: senior executives from Pfizer, Merck, and Gilead Sciences, alongside technology leaders from Google, Amazon, and Indeed. It follows a €100,000 Enterprise Ireland grant that supported the company's earliest work.
What the round funds
The work ahead falls into three areas. The first is the intelligence layer itself: the in silico, multi-omic models of disease biology, built from patient tissue, that let us run perturbations in software and reason about them as a biologist would at the bench. Most of the capital goes into deepening these models and the systems-biology machinery underneath them.
The second is data. A mechanistic model is only as faithful as the biology it is built from, so we are extending our multi-omic datasets to characterise disease across more tissues, at higher resolution, and over more of the patient variation that governs sensitivity and resistance. The third is people: led by co-founders Lee Sherlock (chief executive) and Brendan Martin (chief technology officer), the team remains small and technical at Dogpatch Labs in Dublin, and the round funds hiring across computational biology and machine learning.
The traction behind it
This round scales work already underway rather than starting it. Meta-Flux has active therapeutics partnerships in two areas: with Mercury Bio in neurodegeneration, and with Celtic Biotech in oncology. In both, our models are applied to the problems programmes face early — target selection, pathway prioritisation, patient stratification, and biomarker strategy — and it is the demand from that work, more than any projection, that made the case for raising now.
What is next
The near-term focus is depth over breadth: extending the simulation to more of disease biology, closing the loop between in silico prediction and the experimental data that validates or corrects it, and putting that capability to work inside our existing partnerships before we widen the aperture. We will share more as those programmes progress.
